Unscheduled Outage Last Night
July 01, 2009 | 09:26 Filed in: Servers
Yesterday Afternoon through Midday Today CUGNet had experienced some unexpected downtime. This was not our fault, however as a result of the unexpected situation, we were only partially functioning until approximately 12:38pm CST when we had to perform a reboot. The Sprint Datacenter that we are hosted in had experienced a high packet-loss for a period of about 20-30 minutes. As a result, CUG’s services were sluggish and/or failing. This was entirely the result of the issue with the Datacenter and not with ourselves. We do hope that the issue did not critically impact any of our members, however if there are any problems, please feel free to file a support ticket with us and we will get to those issues as fast as we can.
Updates on CUGNet 3.0
We have been working hard to iron out the remaining bugs in the 3.0 release as well as attempting to migrate all of the users with websites into VPS memberships. As a result of this, some of the services that we planned to have available thus far have not been released. However we hope to be able to update everyone with what we have gotten up at the end of the month. Stay tuned!
New Website Design

With all of the issues that we were having getting our site running on Word-press after the migration to CUGNet 3.0, we figured it was about time to consider alternatives. In many ways, this is a throwback to when we first brought the CUG back, as our site is now coded using Rapid-weaver for the Mac. Regardless the senior staff seems happy about this move, and there is a certain flexibility we get from this new site that the old one didn’t have. We hope you enjoy the new look as much as we do, and feel free to drop us a line and let us know what you think in our discussion chat.
CUGNet 3.0 Running

Over the weekend we performed a major upgrade to CUGNet. We essentially reloaded everything from scratch after upgrading the ram (we now have 16GB!) and switching from VMWare Server to OpenVZ. We are now 100% open source! An added benefit of migrating everything over to OpenVZ is that we will be able to start offering free VPSs to our members within the next few weeks. So keep an eye out! We are already working on changing the verbiage on the site to the new VPS offerings, and we will still offer open shell access to the main shell server for those who are happy with just that.
On a related note, please excuse any instability within the next week. We are working on fixing the last couple of kinks in the system. Below are a list of issues that we are working on:
